Fire Safety During the Holidays

Fire Safety During the Holidays – By Jaanu

While in the kitchen keep flammable items packed away. Open flames should always be monitored. Make sure cooking items are far away from plants (trees) and wooden furniture.

Candelabras and candles should ideally be about three feet away from any flammable items.

Follow all instructions for fryers and similar equipment!

If you own a live Christmas tree, keep it well-watered and green. Dry trees are dangerous as they are fire hazards.

Always inspect your holiday lights carefully before hanging them up.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are peak days when home decoration fires are started, so be careful! About ½ of all home décor fires begin due to open candle flames.

Heat sources, such as portable heaters and other technology should be kept away from trees.

When hanging lights, follow manufacturer’s directions on how many lights to connect. Take care not to overload sockets. Turn lights off when they are not needed.

Stay safe as the holiday season begins!
