Shoes To Keep An Eye On

Shoes come and go in popularity. Last year’s ubiquitous Nike Air Force 1, while always an excellent shoe, has been shown up by the unexpectedly popular Adidas Sambas. However, having an uncommon sneaker is almost a good thing. Since trends turn so fast, settling on a good, long-lasting shoe is the solution to finding an understated, yet cool place in the sneakerhead hierarchy.

With that said, here are a few shoes that are sure to be useful in the spring and summer. I think classy comfort is on the top of everyone’s list for formal shoes. I’ve been noticing kitten heels make an appearance at every college formal of late- entirely replacing uncomfortably high stilettos! The height stiletto heels provide is offset by the total discomfort they cause when walking around. Kitten heels were invented as a sort of “training-wheels” for young girls transitioning to wearing higher heels. Today, they’re shorter than the average stiletto (pictured above) and provide a more genteel look.

Also, not to be underestimated is the neat work flat. I’m glad big loafers are disappearing on campus; chunky, rather obnoxious thick loafers were all the rage in the fall, but, thank goodness, they’re slowly petering away, to be replaced by the classic work shoe, the buckled flat. These can be work with socks or without- but in either case present a nice, formal look. Elegance is always an attitude. 🥿
