Matsuyama’s father introduced golf to him at the very young age of four – and it was a perfect match. His love for the game of golf, dedication and hard work brought him lot of success and fame early on his life. He won the 2010 Asian Amateur Golf Championship and became the first Japanese amateur to play in the 2011 Masters Tournament. Matsuyama was the only amateur to make the cut and won the silver Cup, presented to the lowest scoring amateur. He became the number one player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking in 2012.Matsuyama turned a professional golfer in 2012. Early success brought him lot of fame along with tremedous expectations and pressure. Matsuyama was part of the International team at the 2019 Presidents Cup. The winning streak continued. In the 2021 Masters tournament, during third round, at the 11th Hole, he was in deep trouble after hitting the approach shot into the trees but heavenly intervention occurred in the form of inclement weather. When play resumed he made the birdie from the trees and scored 5 under par in the next seven holes and never looked back. Like Yu Darvish (baseball) and Naomi Osaka (tennis) before him, Matsuyama is hoping his victory can bring acclaim to Japanese golf. Congrats, champion! 🏌️♂️
