Kilian Jornet – Mountain GOAT
Kilian Jornet Burgada is a Spanish professional mountain and trail runner and is considered as the Greatest Of All Time by his peers and pundits. He has won the prestigious Skyrunner World Series six times, the most famous ultramarathon Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc four times and countless other short and long-distance trail running championships. He is the most humble and honest of all champions.
Kilian was born in Catalonia, Spain and grew up in a mountain hut in the Pyrenees, where his father was a mountain guide and hut keeper. He was a child prodigy who climbed Mt. Tuc de Molières (3,011 m) at the age of three, Mt. Aneto (3,404 m), the highest mountain in the Pyrenees, at five, and the Breithorn (4,164 m) at the age of six. He was very successful in ski mountaineering too and won many championships as a junior member of the Spanish national team. Kilian won and set course records on the countless of the hardest mountain and trail running courses around the world.
As part of his “Summits of My Life” project, Kilian is trying to set ascent and descent records for some of the world’s tallest peaks and mountains. So far, he shattered the records on Mount Everest, Kilimanjaro, Mont Blanc, Mount Matterhorn, Mount Denali, Aconcagua, and Mount Elbrus. Kilian summited Mount Everest at midnight on May 22, 2017, without supplemental oxygen in 26 hours from base camp and reached the summit again the next day from advanced base camp.
In a legendary move, Kilian published a summary of his training data and practices for all of 2022 recently. This is extremely rare in the world of elites and the hyper competitive era of sports history. His work will be wonderful guide to innumerable current and future athletes.
Well done, G.O.A.T!!
