About Us
Meet Jaanu
Jaanu believes with her whole heart in making a difference. That’s why she founded Spirit with Navin – to combine a love for creativity and connection with passion for positive change.
Because her deepest interests lie in biology and public policy, she loves to explore the human health, humane technology, education, and equity-centered aspects of service. Her greatest desire is “to leave the world a bit better, whether by a garden patch or a redeemed social condition, and to know even one life has breathed easier because [she has] lived,” as Ralph Waldo Emerson has written. Jaanu is quite an exacting editor, having held “trials” for Cartoonist Navin. She loves to read; some of her favorite books include Henry V, The Brain’s Way of Healing, The Lord of the Rings, Le Petit Prince, and the Adventures of Tintin. Happiest outdoors, Jaanu hopes to develop a green thumb; in the meantime, she enjoys exploring rural areas of New England and New York.

Meet Navin
As a lighthearted chap who likes science, public policy, and making people smile, Navin hopes to mitigate physical pain as an anesthesiologist and the pain of poverty as a social entrepreneur. He is a genuine, passionate advocate for Earth’s climate, its people, their health, and service for all of the above.
Navin is this magazine’s most well-beloved (and only) cartoonist. He co-founded Spirit with Jaanu and has overseen its growth and impact as CTO, dreaming of a way to bring hope to underserved communities through the gift of education. He is a runner, a hockey player, and has dabbled in lacrosse and tennis. He enjoys spending time outdoors and visiting farms, where he once fed a baby cow its first milk and named it ‘Champ’. His favorite books include Catch-22, The Hobbit, Into the Wild, and For God & Country. Navin draws inspiration from Bill Watterson’s wonderful work in Calvin and Hobbes.
