Spring Break – Snowmass Skiing

Having grown up skiing on the east, I was completely unprepared for my first experience hitting the slopes in Colorado.
Spring break is a universal call to disappear somewhere warm. Popular destinations include Miami, FL – San Juan, Puerto Rico – the warm beaches of the Dominican Republic. For my very first spring break, my friends and I ignored our intuition and turned west to Colorado. The leap was most definitely among the best decisions I’ve ever made. It was a totally unforgettable, once in a lifetime experience on the slopes.
The elevation of the Colorado mountains were shockingly different from the elevation everywhere else in the state. It was a land of stark contrasts, with flat plains offset by jagged mountains seeming to carve the sky. Aspen was home to 4 popular resorts, of which we visited half. The powder on Ajax Mountain was unbelievable. “Soft as a baby’s cheek” as they say and there was over a foot of glorious fresh powder at least. The peak of Snowmass definitely posed a challenge to my amateur self- but, “a bad day of skiing will beat a good day working!” ⛷
