Editorial July 2022
Dear Readers,
July is wonderful. The mid-year feeling is always pleasant. There is a slow, peaceful pace of life – the busy school feeling, which is wonderful in its own way, has worn off, and the soporific heat of August’s “dog days” hasn’t yet started in. And yet, it was in this supposedly tame month that independence sparks in people’s hearts. American Independence Day is July 4, and French Bastille Day is July 14. Indian Independence Day is in August, but I’ll count it among our July dates because the fight for Indian Independence was long and hard, and some of it certainly took place in July. Independent of circumstance, or the “right time”, people in history have stood their ground and facilitated noble change in this month. The war for independence began in the very state I live in today.
What an electrifying feeling. It inspires me to want to rise to the occasion. Being brave is difficult, but courage comes in many forms. I find the month of July inspiring because I find these leaps for freedom incredibly courageous. It is difficult to understand everything freedom fighters did to improve their lives and their country. Imagine the courage needed! They sacrificed much and had no idea whether it would all pay off. By God’s grace, it did, and I’m given the faith to try.
Sincerely,
Editor Jaanu 🎆
